Recognizing the Worth and Value of Masculinity
Why Men Deserve to Be Celebrated Too
Growing up, many men are told things like, "Men shouldn’t cry," or "Men must always be strong." These ideas teach men to hide their emotions, avoid talking about their feelings, and ignore their mental health.
On top of that, society doesn’t always give men the respect and recognition they deserve. We celebrate International Women’s Day with pride to honor the amazing women in our lives, our mothers, sisters, friends, and colleagues. But when it comes to International Men’s Day, there’s often little excitement or attention.
Why is that? Don’t men also deserve respect, appreciation, and encouragement? The truth is, men often don’t value or respect themselves enough, and this needs to change.
Respect Starts with Ourselves
As men, we need to recognize our own worth first. It’s okay to feel emotions, to cry, and to ask for help when we need it. True strength isn’t about hiding how we feel it’s about being honest and brave enough to share our struggles. We also need to support each other and build each other up.
By doing this, we can challenge the outdated stereotypes about men. It’s time to redefine what being a man really means.
Celebrate Everyone
International Men’s Day is a chance to celebrate all the ways men contribute to society. Fathers, brothers, friends, mentors, men play many roles that shape the world around us. Just like we celebrate women for their strengths and sacrifices, we should also recognize the hard work and challenges men face.
But it’s not about choosing between men and women. It’s about celebrating both. Men and women each bring their own unique strengths and perspectives to the world, and both deserve respect and appreciation.
Building a Better World
When we recognize and value everyone men and women, we create a kinder, more balanced society. Let’s honor men and women equally and support each other to be the best versions of ourselves. It starts with respect, and it starts with us.
